Four Horsemen FAQ 1.0

Section A: Card Rulings

Section B: Immortals

Section C: Errata

-- Section A: Card Rulings --

1. Attacks and Defenses

Q1.1 What if Block and Strike wasn't the last defense I played during my Defense Phase?
A1.1 Then it will not be used as your first attack during your Attack Phase.

Q1.2 Can I play Block and Strike during my Attack Phase as an attack?
A1.2 Yes.

Q1.3 Can I play Block and Strike to an area I just blocked even if I didn't use Block and Strike as a block?
A1.3 No. "This" refers to using Block and Strike as a defense and if it is the last defense you played that turn you can use it as your first attack. Thereby allowing you to attack to areas you just blocked.

Q1.4 If there is something preventing me from playing an defense from my hand, can I play Block and Strike as an attack?
A1.4 No. Block and Strike is considered to be both a Special Attack and a Block.

Q1.5 How about if there is something preventing my from playing attacks and I want to play Block and Strike as a defense?
A1.5 No.

Q1.6 What if I Exert for a defense and find a Block and Strike? Can I play it?
A1.6 No. Since Block and Strike is both a defense and a Special Attack you cannot play it since you cannot pull Special Attacks from an Exertion.

Q1.7 If I'm Duncan and I play Feint to make my Block and Strike cover an additional area, is the additional area also there when Block and Strike is used as my first attack that turn?
A1.7 No. Feint will only add the additional area on the block until the end of your Defense Phase, as the card reads.

Q1.8 Can you play a Master's Head Shot with a non-Upper attack?
A1.8 No. All Head Shots should be upper attacks. (See Errata)

2. Events

Q2.1 If Cassandra (or Fitz, Nakano, Katana, or Caspian) choose not to play a Special, and use their Persona Power, can they play the Generic Master Head Shot?
A2.1 Yes. As long as you use such Persona Powers before playing Master Head Shot and Master Head Shot is the only Special Card you play that turn. If the Persona Power doesn't resolve until after you've played the Special Card, then the Power is cancelled (i.e. Caspian's Persona Power).

3. Situations

Q3.1 There don't seem to be any cards that prevent me from playing Situation: Plots. Does Blatant Clue also work against stuff that prevents me from playing Specials in general (i.e., Renee Delaney), and cards at all (i.e., Fast Talk)?
A3.1 Yes. However, you cannot play any cards you are restricted from playing except for Situation: Plots.

Q3.2 Will Duende let you ignore losing your head to a Head Shot Event?
A3.2 No. Duende only ignores the text on the attack itself, but not any cards played in conjunction or modifying the attack.

Q3.3 When time in a tournament is called and First Blood is initiated and I have Duende in play, when it leaves play do I lose 2 Ability for each attack under the Duende?
A3.3 No. When First Blood is initiated, all Special Card effects are ignore and/or nullified before all Special Cards are removed.

Q3.4 How about Duncan's or Kurgan's Master's Head Shot?
A3.4 Yes, because the text on those attacks are what make them Head Shots and Duende will ignore that text.

Q3.5 When you give a Monkey a proper name, does that proper name become it's new title?
A3.5 No. You no longer name the Monkey (See Errata).

Q3.6 Do you discard a card for every Monkey your opponent has in play the turn she plays them, or every turn that you have any Monkeys in play?
A3.6 Monkey's played during your turn are a 'Must Do' effect for your opponent's next turn only.

Q3.7 Can I Focus a Monkey my opponent just played so that I don't have to discard cards for that Monkey?
A3.7 Yes.

Q3.8 If there are Event Allies beneath the Safe House, and it leaves play, does this mean you can play multiple Events in one turn?
A3.8 Yes, as long as those Events are from the discarded Safe House.

Q3.9 When do the Allies come into play?
A3.9 Either during your 'Must Do' Phase, or the appropriate part of your turn according to the Ally being played. You also choose the order they come into play.

Q3.10 Can I discard more than one War Paint if an attack I play becomes successful?
A3.10 Yes.

4. Pre-Game Cards

Q4.1 The text is unclear on the Crystals. Can I substitute a defense for a Basic Attack? Can I substitute a non-Special Attack for a Basic Block?
A4.1 No. You must substitute a defense for a Basic Block or non-Special Attack for a Basic Attack.

Q4.2 Can I use the three Crystals from Arms and Tactics and the three Crystals from The Four Horsemen for a total of six Crystals?
A4.2 Yes.

-- Section B: Immortals --

5.Cassandra

Q5.1 If my opponent is Cassandra and she has out four or more Enchanted Voice cards, how the heck do I ever play any Specials?
A5.1 One tactic everyone can do, but is risky, is not to draw up for a while. That way you draw several cards at one time during a later turn and hopefully get more Special cards than the number you have to discard. But there are a few other non-Special cards which can help you avoid or remove the Enchanted Voices from play.

Q5.2 If Cassandra has two Enchanted Voice Situations in play, how many Special cards does her opponent have to discard?
A5.2 Two. The Enchanted Voices work together instead of making a separate effect for each Enchanted Voice.

6.Caspian

Q6.1 Is Caspian's Famine worded correctly? It seems like either "All players" in the first sentence, or "Any opponent" in the second sentence is incorrect?
A6.1 Famine is correct. All players take damage, but only Caspian's opponent's can discard Allies from play or from their hand to prevent the damage. Caspian is going to take the 1 damage each turn.

Q6.2 Can Caspian make one of his Master's Attacks a Head Shot?
A6.2 Yes. It is considered an upper attack as well as a middle center attack.

Q6.3 Does Caspian's Skinning Knife require a free-hand? Should it have a Hand Icon on it?
A6.3 No. It doesn't have a Hand Icon and does not require a free-hand.

Q6.4 If decide not to play a Special Card during my turn and use Caspian's Persona Power and then play the Generic Master Head Shot which is played even if I can't play a Special Card, then is my opponent still unable to block multiple attacks?
A6.4 No. Any effects, mostly Persona Powers, which state that you can do 'X' if you do not play a Special Card will be cancelled when you play a Special Card if the effect hasn't already resolved. In the case of Caspian's Persona Power, it resolves during your opponent's turn, so even if you use Master Head Shot or End of Time, you've still played a Special Card and the effect is cancelled when you do so since it hasn't resolved yet.

7. Kronos

Q7.1 When do Kurgan's and Amanda's damage modifiers, due to their Persona Powers, occur? Does Kronos' Taunt work against such Persona Powers?
A7.1 All damage modifiers occur when damage from an attack is determined during the defenders turn. So such Persona Powers which modify the damage of an attack will be unaffected by Kronos' Taunt.

Q7.2 Is Annie Devlin's Persona Power which works like a permanent Flashing Blade considered using a Persona Power even if she plays no attacks or just one?
A7.2 The use of that part of her Persona Power isn't actually used during her turn, but during her opponent's turn. So, no.

Q7.3 If Kronos plays a card that forces his opponent to draw cards each turn (i.e. The Highlands), does his Persona Power still kick in letting him look at his opponent's hand each turn after the first?
A7.3 No. The Highlands is still a card considered to be played by Kronos forcing his opponent to draw cards.

Q7.4 Can Kronos still look at his opponent's hand even though they didn't draw any cards before their Draw/Discard Phase that turn?
A7.4 No. Only when they draw cards before their Draw/Discard Phase can he use his Persona Power to look at their hand.

Q7.5 During First Blood if I use End of Time to play an Object, Location, or Situation does it get removed?
A7.5 No, it will stay in play. Such cards are only removed when First Blood is initiated.

Q7.6 What if I am using a Methos Quickening and have a Kurgan's Master's Head Shot; play the Master's Head Shot then discard End of Time to play Darius/Amanda's Seduce?
A7.6 Not quite. Kurgan's Master's Head Shot doesn't become a Head Shot until the end of your turn when it sees that you did not play a Special Card. But since you did play one, it does not become a Head Shot.

Q7.7 How about using a Katana Quickening to remove a Situation then discarding End of Time to play a Special Card?
A7.7 This you can do. After using the Katana Quickening effect you then cannot play Special Cards; yet End of Time allows you to play a Special Card if you cannot.

8. Silas

Q8.1 Can Silas play two different Basic Blocks, same or different, using his Persona Power even if one of those blocks is inappropriate?
A8.1 Yes.

9. Xavier St. Cloud

Q9.1 Can I use a Master's Tactician in play to duplicate the effects of a Monkey? Does my opponent have to discard a card for each Monkey in play?
A9.1 Per the Errata below, the Monkey only has effects after it is played. By duplicating it with a Master's Tactician, it is still a Monkey and an Ally, but causes no additional effects on it's own since it wasn't played that turn.

-- Section C: Errata --

Block and Strike: Middle Center & Lower Right should not have a Restriction number.

Generic Master's Attack: Upper Right & Middle Center should be an Immortal Specific card for Caspian.

Generic Master Head Shot should read, "Play in conjunction with an upper attack."

Monkey should read, "After this card is played, your opponent must discard a card from his hand for each Monkey in play. You may play another Monkey this turn. This is considered to be an Ally."

Caspian's Master's Attack: Upper Left & Middle Center should have a Reserved symbol.

Silas' Flashback should have a Situation Icon.
