Maintained by: Thunder Castle Games

IMPORTANT: This FAQ is compiled from questions on the mailing list, the newsgroups, and from other sources.

Before reading this FAQ, please take the time to download The Gathering Edition Rules, Series/Movie Edition FAQ, Watcher Chronicle's FAQ, The Gathering FAQ, The Methos FAQ, and Card Errata for Highlander. These documents complement one another, and each contains information important to the game. If you have questions, suggestions, or corrections, please send them to: tcgames@gvi.net.

An asterisk (*) notes changes since the previous version of the FAQ.

*Editor's Note:  As of 4/28/98, Rick Hammerle no longer maintains the FAQ.

The questions are organized into specific areas, depending on what the question deals with. For example, if you have a question about a Situation, it will be in the section for Situations. If you have a general question about an Immortal, look in the section for that Immortal.

Section A: Card Rulings

Duncan Collection Errata 1. Pre-Game Cards

Q1.1 If I make a Power Blow, can my opponent still make a Hidden Attack due to a Mountain Cave in play?
A1.1 No. Your opponent's first attack cannot be Hidden by any means.

Q1.2 If I use the Duncan Persona with the Premium which allows me to have 2 additional Pre-Game cards, how many more Pre-Game cards can I have?
A1.2 Six. You are normally restricted to 6 Pre-Game cards. With the use of this Premium this raises the limit to 8. The Duncan Persona and the Premium are considered to be 2 of the Pre-Games you can use, so you still have 6 more Pre-Game 'slots' you can fill.

2. Attacks

Q2.1 My opponent is playing Duncan with the Nakano and Katana Quickening cards. On his turn, he duplicates the effects of an Event I played then makes an Exertion to remove a Situation from play. Lastly, he plays a Master's Head Shot. Is this all legal?
A2.1 Yes. All the above cards require, or have added effects, if the player does not play a Special card. In all cases, he did not play a Special card during his turn so he could duplicate an Event using the Nakano Quickening; Exert to remove a Situation using the Katana Quickening; and make Master's Head Shot a Head Shot as well.

Q2.2 Can Master's Head Shot be made Hidden? Can it be a Power Blow? Can I play it from an Exertion?
A2.2 Master's Head Shot is not a Special Attack so it can be played Hidden and be pulled from an Exertion. It can also be made a Power Blow, however if you do not play a Special card during your turn, the attack is considered to be a Head Shot. Since Head Shots are considered to be Power Blows, you couldn't use some other effect (i.e. Exertion, Slan Quickening, etc.) to make the attack Power Blow again.

Q2.3 My opponent is playing Duncan and play a Leg Sweep followed by a Middle Right Attack. I have a Dodge in my hand which I want to play against the Middle Right Attack. When is the Leg Sweep determined successful or not?
A2.3 Leg Sweep is a card based upon some upcoming changes in Highlander on how attacks and defenses resolve and are played. In this case, Leg Sweep is determined successful or unsuccessful during your Defense Phase when you play a defense against it or not. You must play (or 'use' as the case maybe with Guards and an Alertness) a defense against Leg Sweep before one can be played/used for the Middle Right Attack. Another way is to considered the Middle Right Attack undodgeable until you do play a defense or avoid the Leg Sweep. Also, as you may have noticed, the Leg Sweep can be dodged, so playing the Dodge against Leg Sweep makes it unsuccessful allowing you to dodge the Middle Right Attack. Assuming there isn't an effect in play which prevents dodges from avoiding multiple attacks, the Dodge will then avoid the Middle Right Attack as well.

Q2.4 My opponent is Kane and he chose to use the top card of my Endurance during one of his turns. It turns out to be a Belligerent Attack. If the attack is unsuccessful, what happens to it when my opponent's next Sweep Phase comes around?
A2.4 It would return to Kane's hand, but at anytime it would normally be discarded, it would go back to the original owner's (your) discard pile.

Q2.5 What if its some other attack and Kane plays Feint?
A2.5 This works the same way.

3. Defenses

Q3.1 Can I play Prime Block against a normal attack?
A3.1 Yes, Prime Block will work against non-Ranged attack.

4. Events

Q4.1 My opponent plays Warrior's Fury and a Flashing Blade then discards a Scotland Brave to make an Exertion to make all the attacks Power Blows. Am I dead, or what?
A4.1 You might be, however you are still able to play blocks against those attacks, which will be difficult since they are Hidden Attacks. If you have a Master's Block handy, you know it will cover all the areas of the attacks and making if a Power Block will fully block any Power Blows that it blocks during that turn. Of course, Holy Ground is another option.

5. Situations

Q5.1 My opponent has Debra in play and plays an attack against me. I have a block that will cover the attack, but it's the only attack in my hand. Can I play the block?
A5.1 No. You cannot play a block unless you can also discard a block for Debra. However, you could make an Exertion to search for a defense and if you find a block in the Exertion you can play it and discard the block in your hand. It works much like Master's Advance (See SE/ME FAQ, Q13.10).

6. Edge Cards

Q6.1 Can I play A Master's Focus if there are no Situations in play?
A6.1 Yes.

Q6.2 If I play Concentration and make an Exertion to search for a Special Attack but do not find one, can I still play another attack from the Exertion.
A6.2 First of all, when you make an Exertion to search for an attack, you do not have to declare what attack it is you are searching for, though it may be obvious. You can play any attack found in the Exertion unless there are cards or effects in play which prevent you from playing such attacks.

Q6.3. After playing Concentration, can I play more than one Special Attack if I find them in an Exertion?
A6.3 No. Concentration only allows you play Special Attacks from an Exertion which is made to search for an attack. You can still only pull one attack from the Exertion.

Q6.4 Can I play more than 1 Duncan Feint Edge in conjunction with a block?
A6.4 Yes. See Errata.

Q6.5 If the block I played with Feint has added benefits if successful, do the benefits still work if the areas added by Feint actually block the attack?
A6.5 Yes. Feint will modify the grid of the block so that it covers more areas. Nothing else on the block is changed.

*Q6.6 If I play Focused Strike and make the attack a Power Blow, can Luther or Slan still Power Block the attack?
*A6.6 They can still block the attack, they just cannot make the block a Power Block. Even though Luther and Slan; and such cards like Continuity, Stamina, and Ancestral Blade; allow a player to make Power Blocks without an Exertion, they are still considered to be making Power Blocks which is not allowed by Focused Strike.

Q6.7 My opponent plays two Slashes each with a Razor's Edge. Is this legal?
A6.7 Yes. Razor's Edge restriction pertains to playing only one per Slash played. But he can still play more than one in a turn if he has also played more than one Slash that turn.

Q6.8 If I play Back Away with Superior Tactics can I now avoid a Ranged Attack?
A6.8 Yes, you can. The game text on the dodge played with Superior Tactics is nullified, so any restrictions and/or benefits from the dodge would be ignored. The dodge becomes a simple dodge with no text; much like Amanda's Distract.

The Duncan Collection Errata

*Duncan MacLeod
Feint
EDGE
Play in conjunction with a block. For each Feint played you may have this block cover an additional adjacent area on the grid for the remainder of the Defense Phase.
